Satellite Systems Engineer

Horsham, Pennsylvania. US.

The position

You’ll provide advanced technical expertise setting up space ground stations for multiple customer space missions, developing technical systems and enhancing current services and internal projects. You’ll also provide technical support to operations.

As the Systems Engineer, you’ll be part of a team effort including other units within service delivery operations and engineering, and further afield within this global space services enterprise.

The enterprise

They provide satellite management services from the world’s largest network of ground stations which are used to track and communicate with an expanding range of scientific, earth observation, navigation and telecoms satellites. The network of 100 antennas around the world has engineering and manned network operations centers in Horsham Pennsylvania, Santiago Chile, and Kiruna in Sweden. They engage with the most exciting technology both on the ground and in space, and the challenges this brings.

This part of the business is responsible for the commissioning of services, the service performance assurance and lifecycle management and for special operations (LEOPS).

Responsibilities

The Systems Engineer works on advanced technical support, design and implementation which entails a responsibility for the following main tasks;

  • 3rd line technical support for ongoing missions
  • build and configure systems for new missions
  • integrate & verify systems with and for customers
  • support critical LEOP operations, deploying new systems or for orbital maneuvers
  • support lifecycle of services from sales process through to decommissioning
  • drive internal improvement tasks and projects
  • interact with technology suppliers and vendors

Focus 

  • Mission Establishment: implement technical solutions for customers, internal/external tests (execute according to test plan, and report results), report project progress.
  • LEOP: perform mission establishment for critical operations, support critical operations, normally on console, support the LEOP Operator at the network management centre or on-call. Responsible for the overall system functionality and trouble shooting.

Skills

  • Degree in engineering, science or similar
  • broad experience (>3 years) of designing technical systems
  • comprehensive understanding of the theoretical aspects of “space-to-ground”
  • experience of the ground system hardware and knowledge of software architecture
  • proven ability to solve technical complex problems under stressful situations

It’s an international environment. You’ll work with colleagues from all over the world including, Sweden, Chile, Australia, Canada.
