Description

This fully funded start-up is a wholly owned subsidiary of a global enterprise providing space sector services.

It’s been spun-out to create the freedom for this small team to work away from interruption and large corporate baggage. The challenge is to identify, define and develop ground-breaking next-generation space services for the NewSpace market.

They’re about to grow rapidly because they’ve just won a large multi-million £ project with partners and they are the prime.

The opportunity

  • Design & develop architectures and operations to support NewSpace systems and services.
  • Analyse and characterise performance of existing communication protocols and develop new, more efficient and higher performance protocols. 
  • Lead engineering and design teams through the network development life: 
  • Define, develop or adapt communications protocols, interfaces and standards to support network operations.
  • Maintain network integrity & performance & manage expansion in new geographic areas. 
  • Technical authority on network systems, including software and hardware development, implementation, interface definitions, testing, and release.
  • Work with team leads, Scrum Master and Product.

Essential

  • 5+ years architecting, developing, and operating enterprise class networks.
  • Solid experience in the following areas:
    • Wireless networking, software defined networking (SDN) or network function virtualization (NFV).
    • IP WAN/LAN customization and optimization in satellite / telecommunications systems.
    • Cloud-based technologies (Kubernetes, Azure, AWS, C2S, Istio).
    • Integration of communication protocols and network layers.
  • Solid understanding of communications standards (3GPP, IEEE, LTE etc.), IP networks and routing/switching protocols.
  • Proficiency in C++ at a minimum and others e.g. Python, JavaScript preferable.  
  • Experience of mentoring and coaching peers or junior engineers.

Desirable Skills

  • Network or cloud certifications (Cisco/Juniper/AWS/Azure).
  • Understanding of satellite technologies and systems.
  • Knowledge or experience of
    • satellite communication standards/protocols: CCSDS, ECSS, ETSI etc. 
    • development and operations for space and ground communication systems. 
    • systems engineering practises and tools.
  • Design leadership in past roles.
  • Work within ITIL, DevOps, Agile methodologies and CI/CD.
  • Eligibility for UK security clearance

Occasional travel may be required.

Rules onsite require British Citizens. You will be required to undergo security clearance.
