The role

Supporting the continuous operation of this satellite operator’s global network, the Satellite Hub & Network Engineer is a member of the operations team and focused upon the support of the satellite hub segment of the space network and the global ground network.

The enterprise

They have a constellation of GEO high throughput satellites with steerable beam clusters, 7 Gateway Earth Stations through EMEA and a head office in the City of London. They have been acknowledged by competitors for well-engineered reliable client solutions. This is an agile business, that’s just beaten the competition to two major contracts. In 2019 they were the first to have stations and full authorisations in Nigeria & South Africa. 2019/20 was a year of high achievement with revenues were up 100%, they are profitable, and costs reduced by 25%. Strong financial and sales trends continued through 20/21 as well.

We have supported this enterprise with recruitment services since they were a start-up.

Essential:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ operational experience of one of the following vendors: Gilat, Newtec, iDirect, Hughes Network Systems and exposure to Juniper or Fortinet or Cisco
  • Understanding of Satellite Communications, VSAT technology, and RF equipment
  • Understanding of the IP protocol stack and traffic/packet analysis tools
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem solving skill
  • Network Operations Centre experience within a Satellite Communications or ISP environment
  • Knowledge of IP networking, Internet protocols and applications.
  • Experience with vendor escalation and trouble ticketing management
  • Previous experience with Windows system administration and use of the Office software suite
  • Hands-on experience of BGP, OSPF, MPLS, QoS, L2 switching, firewall policies, CGNAT & IPSEC.
  • Understanding of monitoring via SNMP
  • Working experience in operating Linux OS

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with monitoring and graphing tools
  • Ability to use a spectrum analyser tool
  • experience of open source monitoring and graphing tools: eg. Nagios, Cacti/RRDtool, Shinken, Graphite and Grafana,
  • Vendor/industry related accreditations; JNCIA or above preferred

The company operates 24x7 services and this role is required to cover a mixture of day/night shifts to support the 24x7 Service Operations.
