The Juniper Network Engineer gives specialist expertise to the core and access networks, to customers and suppliers and supports continuous operations of the network infrastructure for this satcom operator.

The enterprise

The business provides connectivity products via its fleet of high throughput satellites. They focus on Telecom Carriers, Government (incl. Defence) and Industry. The connectivity products are evolving from consumer broadband solutions to high performing customer specific enterprise solutions. Market success is dependent on continuous product innovation, high performance, easy to do business and competitive pricing.

There’s a constellation of GEO high throughput satellites, 7 earth stations through EMEA and a head office in London. They’re acknowledged by competitors for well-engineered client solutions. It’s an agile business, that’s just beaten the competition to two major contracts. In 2019 they were the first to have stations and full authorisations in Nigeria & South Africa. 2019/20 was a year of high achievement with revenues up 100%, and costs reduced by 25%. Strong financial and sales trends have continued through 20/21.

Responsibilities

  • Management of the global network and network transformation
  • Support network automation
  • Support the future design and development of Network-as-a-Service
  • Work with mobile operators in the integration of their mobile services using satellite technology and enabling ultra-rural connectivity in Africa
  • Deliver new network design/solutions for services to customers.

Essential:

  • Juniper and Fortinet network design, configuration, and troubleshooting (MX routers, EX switches & SRX/FortiGate firewalls)
  • Network design, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Experience of ISP bandwidth and subscriber management products (DPI) – eg. Sandvine
  • ISP/Telecom experience with hands-on working experience with MPLS, EVPN and QoS.
  • Competency in: protocols/services: MPLS, BGP, OSPF, IPSec, GRE, CGNAT, QoS, EVPN, Multicast
  • Experience in the administration of network resources – ASN, IP Addressing,
  • Traffic/packet analysis skills
  • Knowledge of Linux operational commands
  • Project management experience for design & implementation of network infrastructure and solutions

Desirable

  • Open-source monitoring: eg. Nagios, Splunk, Cacti/RRDtool, Shinken & Graphite
  • Python and Linux shell scripting
  • Network automation software and tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Git, etc.  
  • SDN and NFV implementations
  • Appreciation of DevOps
